With 7 flights to pay for, airfare deals are essential and the cheapest fares were into Boston. So…… into Boston we went for a quick 24 hour detour. I love Boston (as long as I don’t have to drive- thanks Mike) and had a hard time deciding what we should do with our limited time. Both Taylor and Jake are scheduled to read Thoreau’s Walden this year so Walden Pond became the obvious victor. I’ve always wanted to swim in the pond so after a lovely walk around the lake we took a refreshing swim across the lake. I loved it.
Taking an American history detour, we followed that fateful day in April 1775 when the “shot was heard round the world” by visiting Concord and Lexington. The kids asked endless questions of the Park Ranger at the Old North Bridge (I’m sure he was happy to see us go) and ate homemade goodness at Helens before heading off to Cambridge to do a quick drive by of Harvard Business a school (Tay’s dream- I think the pic at the bottom is going over his bed. ;). ).
Our last leg of security checkpoints, rental car returns and flights loomed ahead of us. Flying with an infant never makes the top of anyone’s top ten list but it gives Mike, the frequent traveler, particular anxiety. Luckily, Lily was an absolute peach on both our last two flights and our layover in Nashville. Thank you Lily. You have been an angel.
