We have driven thousands of miles in two short weeks and have been moving at quite a clip. It was time to slow down and bask in nature; Shenandoah was the ideal location.
After doing some research I settled on the Big Meadows Lodge for our accommodations and it ended up being the ideal location for our adventure. Lily loved the playground, Daisie and Luke loved the ranger programs at the amphitheater, Drew loved the dining room there and at nearby Skyland and I loved that we had great hikes right around us. In fact the Lewis Spring Falls trail started a hundred yards from our front door! Our other favorite hikes were Dark Hollow Falls and Hawksbill- the highest peak in the park. On the trails we met the nicest people, we ate delicious food each evening, we saw gorgeous sunsets, and we met a plethora of deer and wildflowers. It was inspiring to walk a portion of the Appalachian Trail and to learn more about the process of those brave thru hikers. I love that Shenandoah is no longer a place on a map, but it is a place in our heart.
